Reason (1) Your Truck Body Must Be Weather Tight!

Our Rainmaster® style doors give your truck body a weather-tight seal that can't be beat!

Highway Products developed this unique Rainmaster® style of internal rain gutter in 1984 for our semi and heavy truck tool boxes. It was so successful we carried it over to our truck body products. You can see the simplicity of this design makes sense and is very weatherproof. Notice the rugged rain-gutter design surrounds the box opening and actually channels water away before it makes contact with the Trim-lok™ automotive style weather stripping. Hence the name Rainmaster®

 

Truck Bodies Need Tough Components

(2) No-rust marine grade aluminum.

Used to build our line of PAVATI™ pro-series boats, marine grade aluminum is also used to make these truck bodies the toughest and lightest bodies you will find. We use lots of aluminum to build our products. In fact, 95% of our products are made of this great material.

Why does aluminum make cents?

(4) Save $1000 per year in fuel costs! How much does it cost to haul an extra 600 -1000 pounds of steel around? Answer: We are estimating between one and three gallons of fuel per day. 

Sound like too much? Let's do the Math

Of course we are just guesstimating but if you figure 260 working days in a year and 40 - 100 miles a day, this is not out of the question for a work truck. Right?

At .10 cents per mile savings with an aluminum body, which we feel is conservative, you would save between $4.00 and $10.00 per day. $4.00 per day x 260days = $1040.00 savings annually. At $10.00 per day x 260 days = $2600.00 savings annually.

Adds up quickly doesn't it?

(5) What is the biggest threat to service bodies? Answer: rust

Rust is the number one killer of service bodies. Especially in the northeast regions of the USA where salt is used for ice control. Steel just does not hold up to it.

You can put all the fancy coatings you want on steel but they cannot withstand the constant sand blasting from the road and they can't paint the nooks and crannies where moisture sneaks into.

They may look good from the topside but underneath is where they get blasted and underneath is where they fall apart. Some service bodies don't last more than a year.

We use a marine grade aluminum that is used by boat manufacturers world wide. We also make aluminum boats so we've already been there. You don't need to paint them at all and they should last longer than you do.

(6) What is the resale value of an average size aluminum service body you might see on a 3/4 ton pickup truck compared to a steel service body after 4 years? Estimate - steel $500 - $1500 in good shape. Aluminum $4000 - $6000 in good shape.

With an aluminum service body it makes sense to transfer the body to your next truck. Why not. A steel bed will cost you more to transfer than the body is worth.

(7) How do you put a price on wear and tear? An aluminum truck body can save thousands on the purchase of a 3/4 ton truck where a steel body might require a 1 ton truck. Maybe a 1/2 ton instead of a 3/4 ton truck. Then you can figure the cost difference between the two in fuel mileage, tire cost, and tire mileage. You can probably think of a few more.

That's four very good reasons why any aluminum truck body will pay for itself.

Highway Products opened it's door in 1980 building products for semi trucks. The stainless steel "Tee Lock" was the only lock capable of the demanding performance required. It's strong and dependable. That's why we install them as standard.

We also have D-ring locks for fire departments, and key-fob electric locks on request. We've used many different styles of locks over the years. If you have a favorite, let us know.

One of the most over-looked and under-estimated parts of a truck body is the hinge. As you can see, Highway Products eliminated this problem by using oversized stainless steel hinges.

(right) Another over-looked feature in truck bodies is the method of fastening hinges. Highway Products uses Stainless Steel Torx™ screws that allows user to replace a door with simple tools in case of damage.

(13) - Drawers are one of the biggest time savers in a service body. They seem to be the easiest to keep organized. We make lots of them.

(14) - Adjustable shelves, of course! Necessary for larger items like power tools.

(19) - This customer couldn't find the truck body he wanted so we built one just for him. The front compartment goes all the way through to the other side. As you can see, this unit turned out very nice. We can customize for you too.

(20) - This all aluminum truck body was set up for garage door service and installation. He needed lots of storage for parts and equipment. Plus he needed a rack to carry rollup doors and ladders.

(21) - The front compartment is also open clear through to the other side. Dry storage for longer items is not easy to find on service bodies. This one has lots of it.

(22) - This service body has a full tailgate that when open, makes for a nice table for lay-out plans. Notice the two levels in the back. The top level still has lots of room for gear, shovels, or tools while the bottom level is our "Roller Coaster" shown in the closed position.

(23) - Also shown is a Highway Products "Roller Coaster" in the out position. Comes in 2000# or an incredible 4000# capacity for super duty, and has locking positions every 10 inches for safety. An all aluminum sliding cargo tray keeps the weight down with a galvanized cold rolled steel track system for durability.
